HOLLYWOOD (PIO) -- Seemingly underscoring a perceived liberal bias, NBC has picked up The Bill & Barry Comedy Hour, starring former terrorist William Ayres and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, as a mid-season replacement to do battle with ABC/Disney's just-announced Muppets redo. Under intense pressure from arch-conservative journalist Stanley Kurtz to reveal the extent of their relationship, Obama and Ayres, in consultation with NBC, decided to make the announcement early. "This morning, I called Stanley and personally apologized for saying that Bill was just a guy in the neighborhood when, in fact, we've been working together on a kick-ass comedy act for over 13 years," said Obama.
NBC said the the series will have fully choreographed production numbers a la Sonny & Cher and hopes it will resurrect the moribund comedy-variety format. "I'm the slow-witted funny one -- as I hope my recent gaffes have made clear," said Obama, who is in actuality a cherrywood ventriloquist's dummy in a turtle suit, "but Bill is more of a song-and-dance man -- when he's not planting explosives, that is." Ayres will also be handling all the writing duties on the show, picking up where he left off on Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope. "He's been writing my stuff for years," added Obama, "so this won't be much of a stretch."

NBC is so high on the series that they have ordered a full complement of 22 episodes. "If Sarah Palin can juggle everything on her plate I'm sure I can juggle the presidency and a weekly variety show," said the confident candidate.
